Australian Made : Hugo

Hugo

Pricing Range:
Hugo - $695 - $1095
Sleeping Duck - $999 - $1999

Pros

  • Natural latex
  • Australian made
  • 4 layers of foam design

Read: Hugo Review

The Hugo is another memory foam alternative that is Australian made. With the Hugo, you get premium pressure relief and comfort without feeling ‘too-firm’ because of the combination of the 4 foam layers that is great for all body types and sleeping positions.

Being Australian made Hugo also has excellent customer service and offers same-day delivery to Melbourne metro areas and everywhere else in Aus is still fast and free.

The Hugo mattress still has increased airflow and bounce because of the foams used in the design. Starting at the top and working our way down, the latex top layer is naturally hypoallergenic and antimicrobial to reduce bacteria. Next, you have memory foam that matches your body’s natural contours, then a premium transition layer (that most mattresses skip over), and a high-density foam foundation that adds support and longevity.

Different Hybrid Pick : Noa Luxe

noa luxe

Pricing Range:
Noa Luxe – $799 – $1399
Sleeping Duck - $999 - $1999

Pros

  • Hybrid bed
  • Change the firmness
  • Zoned support

Read: Noa Luxe Review

The Noa luxe is the top of the mattress in the Noa collection. It has a lot of the same features that have made the Noa so great. However, the Noa Luxe has a few great extras, one of them being the addition of bamboo charcoal latex which is an eco-friendly material that is fragrance-free, allergen-free, and non-toxic.

Additionally, the porous structure makes the layer absorb excess moisture and repels odors. The Noa Luxe is a hybrid mattress like the Sleeping Duck, but instead of just having a pocket spring base, the Noa Luxe also has micro-coils. This latest innovation expands and contracts in response to the pressure of your body, making the Noa Luxe extremely comfortable.

We have this choice as an upgrade alternative even though the price is lower because of the incredible quality and comfort.

Best Budget : Zinus ICoil

Pricing Range:
Zinus – $279 – $439
Sleeping Duck - $999 - $1999

Pros

  • It’s an affordable mattress
  • Certi-PUR US certified
  • Hybrid

Read: Zinus Review

The Zinus ICoil is our budget choice; in fact you can get three queen-sized mattress for the same price as one Sleeping Duck mattress. However, price isn’t always the best indicator to go off when choosing a mattress.

Most of the time, you will find the foams on cheap mattresses to be treated or contain nasty chemicals. Which you will be breathing in every night, for years. However, the Zinus ICoil is Certi-PUR US certified, so you don’t have to worry about that.

You can find the Zinus ICoil on Amazon.com.au, it also includes a 10-year warranty and is also a hybrid mattress. But, don’t expect the same level of comfort as the other mattresses on the list.

Another Great Pick: Macoda

macoda mattress

Pricing Range:
Macoda – $800 – $1300
Sleeping Duck - $999 - $1999

Pros

  • Hybrid bed
  • Change the firmness
  • Zoned support

Read: Macoda Review

Our top pick is Macoda. It’s a hybrid mattress and is very similar to the Sleeping Duck in almost every aspect. The Macoda is also customisable; you get two foam inserts that are interchangeable for a different firmness level. The different opinions give a soft, medium and firm comfort level depending on the set, and it only takes a couple of minutes. Great for fussy sleepers.

The Macoda contains 3 layers of foam and pocket springs all encased in a plush bamboo cover that is as comfortable as it looks. The layers of foam are latex, memory foam, high-density support foam.

Final Verdict

After a popular request, we collected these beds because Aussies wanted an alternative to the Sleeping Duck. We have mattresses that are of similar build quality (if not better) and also included some options in the all-foam category.

Everyone is different, and we have tried to include choices to make everyone happy. The beds on this list have positive feedback from other Australians on ProductReview.com.au and Choice, as well as other places around the web as we qualified them.

Below is our top pick and runner up.

Best Alternative : Emma (top pick)

We have picked the Emma Comfort as our best alternative to the sleeping duck primarily on the increased quality, certified foams, happy customers, and price.

This mattress has a different feel compared to the Sleeping Duck because it's all foam. So if you're looking for a mattress that’s close to the SD Mach II, look into the Emma Diamond. However, as an alternative that offers excellent support while saving some money, this would be our pick.

Plus, we can give you an extra 5% off the current sale with SLEEPYS5.

Runner Ups

Best Hybrid Alternative : Origin

One of the best mattress in a box mattresses available. The Origin features a custom-developed and pattened HexaGridTM orthopedic layer that provides maximum comfort and cradles pressure points. There are also two more foam layers, a transitional one and a firmer one. Underneath that are individual pocket springs.

The mattress has recently been redesigned to be even more comfortable and has a large customer base in the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Australia. In addition, it's very competitively priced, and you'll find it cheaper than most all-foam mattresses.

Different Hybris Alternative : Noa Luxe

The Noa luxe is made up of 3 layers of foam and 2 layers of springs. The foams layers are gel-infused memory foam, bamboo charcoal latex, and adaptive transition foam.

These go in combination with the micro coils and pocket springs. Making the Noa Luxe a very premium designed mattress, and I believe, the only one that offers bamboo charcoal latex and micro coils in Australia.

And the kicker is that you can pick it up at a lower price with the current $300 off deal.
